Artist in Residency Calls 2024 (description of the offer below)

Ecological conflicts concern space and life in a primary, basic, ancestral way. The aim of our activity is to promote points of view, alternative imaginaries for the place we have chosen to live, the Ligurian coast. We believe that these places need to be seen through the eye of the wandering artists and that the ability they have to fertilize, like enzymes, the imagination of the people they meet.

Tell us about the way you work, make a proposal about what triggers you about us and introduce yourself with your words, your images, drawings, sounds, …
- We do not require a specific format, a minimum age or a huge CV: this call is open to everyone.
- We are welcoming proposals from artists with any discipline background, at begin or advanced stage of their career.
- We like to give you as much freedom as possible in introducing yourself to the residency. Familiarise yourself with the locations we propose for this year. You can use the informations we have already published on the website.
- We wish to see some of your work and a short proposal were you show us what you would like to do when in residency.

WHAT WE OFFER
A place to stay: La Casa della Rosa Gialla is a welcoming home, with a coworking space and a inspiring view were you can stay for the residency period of 3 weeks.
and to work: During your stay, we will take care of showing you the places to work with and help you chose one to focus upon and work with it.

We will help you present the work you produce at the end of your stay
WHO WE ARE
Rossonove is a non-profit association that promotes artistic residencies.
Together with the people we meet, the artists and the communities, we investigate the landscape as it is and as it could be. We imagine and implement “other” transformations.
Our motto is first of all “zero land consumption”, because we live in an area Liguria that is since long preyed upon by builders and industries, that is depopulating yet investing on short term tourism, was highly antropised with traditional hydrogeological engineering and is now abandoning her mountaneous areas increasing hydrogeological risk. As many other places this space, once heavenly, suffers greatly from the separation with the environment caused by a hundreds of years of ruthless use.
Associazione Rossonove, which deals with artistic residencies, is based in Alassio, on the western coast of Liguria. From our history we have drawn on the collaboration with the Trasformatorio Foundation and with Radio Antidoto. We are open to friendships and collaborations, we exist precisely to encourage communication.

WHERE
We will begin to work both on the natural territory that surrounds us and on that already exploited and to be regenerated. We will therefore start from our neighborhood in Liguria: Ranzi, Pietra Ligure, Loano, Albenga and Alassio
WHAT DO WE DO
We explore abandoned spaces together with the artists and people we will encounter, to imagine OTHER possible transformations. We want to contribute in building other stories in the self-imagination of our land. We want to set up places dedicated to education and care. We wish to show the force of a non oppressive way to build culture.

Transformatorio Foundation (Amsterdam)
THE BEACH
The “Baia del Sole”, between S.Croce cape and Capo Mele includes almost 4 km of sandy beach. divided between the municipality of Alassio and the one of Laigueglia. Is one of the most precious resources of the zone, attracting tourism since the XIX century. Climate change, overuse and over privatisation aside, the rather obvious aspects open to the eye of visitors in the summer, the beach extends below our windows in her beauty. Is a space mostly free for use for 7 monthes every year, a beautiful spot to put your artist imagination at work. NB Rossonove closes down for the heat of the summer months, so no residencies available from mid june to all september.
RANZI, VINEYARD AND YOUTH CLUB
Ranzi is a hamlet of Pietra Ligure, about 4 km from the beach; 300 inhabitants, no bars or shops. The space is a former pizzeria with a large veranda, adjacent to the former primary schools and the headquarters of the Ranzi Youth Club; closed for several years, it is municipal property. At the top edge, in the hamlet of Sant’Antonio, our vineyard/vegetable garden. The villages are: Santa Libera, Santissima Annunziata, San Bernardo (the parish located in the same square as the former pizzeria) and Sant’Antonio. The ancient tradition of the infiorata all’annunziata continues.
FORMER NAVAL SHIPYARD AREA
In Pietra Ligure (about 9000 residents). The area of the former Mediterranean shipyards, abandoned for many years, extends over a sea front of approximately 800 metres. A view on the sea, a place dedicated to introspection, dreams, interviews, events, visions of the sea, of the collective unconscious of dreams.
THE Quarries and Caves
There are many quarries, some closed, others still in operation for the production of gravel. Cava Ghigliazza located between Finale Ligure and Borgio Verezzi overlooking the Via Aurelia, directly on the sea; closed for some time, various speculative projects have been developed. Cava Fazzari in Borghetto SS/Toirano. Closed for some time but investigations for toxic waste, convictions. Cave Marchisio SPA Headquarters in Toirano.
ALBENGA PLAIN
the greenhouses
Agricultural activities with major impact on the landscape. In the area of the Albenga plain, the only one in Liguria, the main activities are floriculture, potted herbs and fine vegetables (artichoke and purple asparagus). Much of the ground is covered by tarps and greenhouses. Strong presence of regular and non-regular immigrants who work on farms. Activities related to agriculture have so far managed to keep the railway at the seaside, and between Finale Ligure and Andora with Albenga in the center the only stretch of railway remains single track.

Up there in the woods behind Alassio the Puerta del Sol enveloped by wisteria and green climbers and transformed by abandonment
JULIA AUGUSTA
It is a stretch of paved road, brought to light by Nino Lamboglia as the only one preserved on the Via Julia Augusta between Albenga and Alassio. The interpretation was based both on the observation of some construction peculiarities and on the discovery of ceramics from the Roman era in the pavements.
